Teeth whitening will not change the color of crowns, veneers and fillings. It only works on natural teeth. Over the counter products, by law, cannot exceed 6% hydrogen peroxide and are significantly weaker compared with dentist prescribed whitening agents. For healthy teeth, the sensitivity experienced during teeth whitening is transient and reversible but be sure to follow your dentist’s instructions. You can temporarily bleach your gums. Vitamin E and bicarb soda applied to these areas can help neutralize the peroxide and allow the gums to heal.   If you have had a history of smoking, coffee or tea drinking and have noticed your teeth getting darker over time this is actually a sign that teeth whitening will probably be effective. Teeth whitening targets extrinsic stains like this beautifully.
