Teeth whitening is a very effective and safe way of whitening and brightening a dull smile. there are some individuals who should avoid this procedure. Anyone with sensitive teeth, worn enamel or exposed roots should consult with their dentist. In many cases, it may be too uncomfortable. Patients with veneers, fillings and crowns  should be careful when whitening their teeth as their natural teeth will respond to the procedure but their existing restorations won’t. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are often advised to avoid teeth whitening. During pregnancy, dentists usually advise delaying any non essential dental procedures such as teeth whitening to avoid the risk of harming the fetus. Opinions within the dental field are divided. Many argue that the peroxide molecules are not able to cross into the breast milk while others state that currently there’s no scientific studies to confirm the safety of whitening during breastfeeding. For my clients, we leave the decision up to the mother.
